Moor Trees

Woodlands Background

Ancient Semi-Natural Woodlands (ASNW) cover 2.8% of Dartmoor in fragmented remnants and 1.8% of the South West. This provides some of the most important habitats in the region with Upland Oakwoods being one of the closest habitats to the natural climax vegetation of the uplands.

Our Woodlands Service provides consultation, planting and maintenance to help create and restore native woodlands of all sizes in and around for conservation benefit.

We work with landowners to plant woodlands for conservation by improving the economic viability of schemes with free trees from our nurseries, volunteer workforce and grant application advice. Without this service none of our schemes would have proceeded.

Our service includes:

  • Project design
  • Grant payment applications
  • Woodland management plans
  • Up to 100% (local provenance) trees supplied at no charge
  • Recycled tree stakes, tubes and spirals
  • Volunteer tree planting
  • Habitat creation and restoration

Our schemes include environmental agreements with all our landowners to ensure that the woodlands we create and restore are protected from future unwanted developments.
